Another chalk paint project

I'm not quite sure why the mood hit me this last weekend to finally tackle the old door that has been sitting downstairs for a year. Actually, when I told Aaron I was finally getting to the door after a year, he corrected me and told me it has actually been two years it's been sitting down there. 

My mom brought it from my grandparent's farm, which I think is neat. I love that it's not just a random door from the thrift store. (Although, I do plan on thrift shopping the next time I'm in Bismarck to see what else I can find to chalk paint!)

Anyways, here are the pictures. The first one is before, the second is right after I got done chalk painting it, and the third is after I got done dark waxing it and right before Aaron put it up as our headboard. I must admit, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I was kind of worried the color would be bright, bright red. (I used a cheaper chalk paint from Michaels...I think it was only about $5 compared to the $30 (?) or so can of Annie Sloan chalk paint. Granted, this was just a small bottle but it did cover up the whole front of the door so it worked out great!)

And we have a front porch! (Lattice - coming soon!) Of course I had to get Ruger in the picture, too. :)

And into August!

...we bought a new vehicle

...I continued to work in my classroom. Lots of work left to do!

...Ruger started to LOVE his pool. He doesn't play in it, but he loves to sit and lay in it when it is super hot out, which, it has been a lot lately. 

...Elizabeth came and visited and we went to the musical!

...we finally started building our fence in the back yard. Thanks for the help mom and Will!! We already love it. 

...especially this guy!

...and occasionally this has been happening. 4 months old!

Today we leave for my in-laws for the weekend (haven't been there all summer!) and then on Thursday I'm meeting my step sister in Billings for a quick getaway. Finally taking advantage of the fact that we live *kind of* close to each other?!

And that, I think will be a wrap of my summer! 

Introducing: Olive

I have been pondering which color chalk paint to get next, for about two months. I didn't want to spend a whole bunch of money on a color I didn't really care for so when someone was selling a can on the local for-sale facebook page, I snatched it up! The color: Olive.

And I really do love it! Green is my favorite color so I quickly got busy on a headboard I picked up from my parents' place.

March 1st

Today I did some more chalk painting. I am still using the cocoa and old white that I have, I haven't gotten to the store to buy a different color. Which is okay, because I love the two colors!
The small table below is a table my mom gave me, which used to belong to my grandparents.

It is now sitting happily in our bedroom! I am still deciding how to decorate it and how to arrange things on it. One thing on it that I love is framed quote Aaron and I got as a wedding gift. 

A Little Decor

Today I made the trek to Bismarck to see my grandma! We ate at Cracker Barrel and I was able to stop in at Hobby Lobby quick to get some decor for our living room console table. I think Hobby Lobby may be my new favorite store.

Newest Chalk Paint Project

Last week as I was sitting on my computer in the living room, oohing and aahing over chalk painted furniture online, I looked over at our end tables. Why not try to chalk paint them? 

So, on Monday my old roommate came and visited Aaron and I and was able to stop at the chalk paint store in Bismarck on her way here! She picked up the colors Coco and Old White for me. 

And so, on Tuesday, I began my project with one of the end tables.

I painted it with two coats of Coco. 

I then dry brushed the Old White over top.

I then took sand paper and sanded parts of it to make it look weathered.

Lastly, I mixed the dark wax and the light wax together and waxed it. 

The last step is buffing it tomorrow.

I'm still learning how to do the distressed look, but, I'm happy with it!

well...

I was messing around with the labels on my posts and must have accidentally deleted a bunch of my posts that had the label 'family' on them. Very frustrating! So if you are wondering where the last few posts went, that's where.

ANYWAYS, here is a shortened version of what I blogged about today but it, too, got deleted: I plan on doing some more chalk painting! The two end tables in our living room as well as the Hoosier cabinet we will be getting from my in-laws do not match. I like things to match. So, I found this chalk painting idea on pinterest {below}. May try to give it a go next week!
